Chandrani Sinha is a Guwahati based independent multimedia journalist. She has been reporting stories out of Northeast India for 9 years and contributes for both Indian and Foreign media organizations. She mostly reports on issues related to climate change, migration, environment and sustainable development. As part of the Fellowship, Chandrani published a report on the impact of COVID 19 on women tea workers in Assam. She was mentored by Rema Nagarajan in the course of reporting.

COVID19 and rising mental health illness among women tea workers of Assam


The life of women tea-pluckers in the 800 odd tea gardens in Assam, is tough. They have a quota of 15 kgs of tea leaves to pluck a day for which they get paid a daily wage of Rs 275. The pandemic has increased their misery and cases of depression, anxiety disorder, panic attacks, and post traumatic stress disorders have risen. But mental health services are non-existent for these poor women.
