Farheen Qureshi is an Independent Journalist based in Kashmir and her reports have been published in Free Press Kashmir, The Citizen, Greater Kashmir, Kashmir Observer, Kashmir Lit. She writes on women in conflict, health, social justice, development and human interest stories in Kashmir. As part of the fellowship, Farheen published a detailed story about how Religious Charities (Bayt-ul-Maals) fought Covid-19 to the teeth and saved Kashmir from Delhi like Covid situation in the second wave. In the process of reporting, she was helped and mentored by Aleesha Matharu and Mahtab Alam.

How religious charities helped Kashmir tide over the Covid-19 second wave


From transportation, medication, rations and meals to oxygen and oximeters, socio-religious groups in Kashmir have been at the forefront in the fight against the pandemic. Volunteers from religious charities also helped in stemming the spread of the virus by educating people about how to keep themselves and their families safe.
