C. Subramaniam Fellowship

Late Shri C. Subramaniam was a great visionary and institution builder. He was the first Chairperson of National Foundation for India (NFI) and was the guiding spirit behind the Foundation.  His contributions to the field of food security and sustainable livelihood at the national level are well known. In recognition of his seminal contribution to National Foundation for India and to the society at large, a Fellowship Programme has been instituted by NFI.

About the Fellowships

The Fellowship Programme has two categories, namely: Fellowships to Voluntary Sector Workers and Fellowships to Community Leaders.

The fellowships would provide opportunity to mid career voluntary sector workers and community leaders to upgrade their skills and deepen their leadership qualities. The fellows will be placed in institutions where they can interact with activists and academics concerned with food security and livelihood issues. They may be encouraged to travel and meet people from other development agencies and voluntary organizations. 

Objectives 

  • To enhance the motivation and understanding of grass-roots voluntary sector workers and community leaders in the fields of food security and sustainable livelihoods.
  • To create a network of individuals and institutions to deepen the sector’s understanding of sustainable livelihood and food security issues.

Eligibility criteria

Mid Career Voluntary Sector Workers

  • Particularly those working at the grass-roots level for a period of 8-10 years in the areas of food security, sustainable environment and livelihood.

Community Leaders

  • Must have been working at the community level in the areas of sustainable livelihood and natural resource management.
  • Women candidates will be encouraged to apply for both the fellowships.

Entitlement  

  • Two candidates will be selected for each fellowship. In all, four candidates will be selected.
  • Value of each fellowship is Rs. 50,000/-. 
      

Application Guidelines

  • Both the Voluntary Workers and Community Leaders should send a brief write-up on their experience, justifying eligibility for the fellowships.
  • A proposal from the candidate outlining the specific area of work he/she would like to pursue with the fellowships grant.
  • The applications for both the fellowships should be forwarded by the Chief Functionary of the NGO where the candidate is working.
